Dogging up King’s Heath

Pointed out on Twitter over the weekend is that the opening titles of Childrens’ ITV ‘classic’ Woof! (plot: boy turns into dog at inopportune moments — Billy’s Boots with more fleas) are set in luscious King’s Heath. The dog wanders down the High Street and surprises a vicar who’s hanging around the toilets on the corner of Vicarage Road. Also the setting for this classic bit of filming.

The Saturday Men (West Bromwich Albion 1962)

“The Saturday Men” spends a week following West Bromwich Albion around. It follows them to training, the inner workings of the boardroom (to the extent to which the inhabitants of said room were going to be honest when there were cameras around), takes the time to meet a former player who is about to embark on a new career as a salesman and even stops in on a pre-match team talk by the club’s then manager, Archie McAuley.

The zombies are coming

The swine flu series Survivors is coming to town and on Sunday 14th June – 6.30am to 6.30pm – they're doing a huge operation, which includes: "the complete closure of Newhall St from Colmore Row down to Great Charles Queensway for the whole this day… the complete closure of Edmund Street from Livery Street up to the corner where it joins Margaret Street… the suspension of all of the parking bays along Newhall St between Great Charles St and Colmore Row, and also along Edmund St from the Saturday for filming and continuity purposes. They will also be carrying out filming on the top floor of Livery St car park and have requested the closure of the top floor of the car park for their sole use on this date." Something to do with Hustle supposedly coming to Brum to film, he said: "my wife said 'you've got to find out where I'm going to live!' So tonight after the signings I'm going down to the Rotunda in the Bullring, which is apparently the best place for apartment-type living."
