Created in Birmingham – Cluedo

Add this to the list of things I didn’t know about Birmingham. The awesome game Cluedo was created right here in Birmingham and it celebrates it’s 60th Birthday this year. Read the Birmingham Post’s coverage. ==Update== Following some discussion on the twitter it’s generally felt that Mr Pratt, who invented Cluedo, deserves recognition by the local Civic Society and the Broad Street Walk of Fame. Following my attempts to get John Wyndham on the Walk of Fame I’d like to offer my support to getting the inventor of Cluedo on the walk of fame. I’d like to see Anthony Pratt get a star on the Birmingham Walk of Stars on Broad Street (he’s created something that’s in the homes of millions of people, he’s given us hours of pleasure, so lets give something back). So far the walk of fame has celebrated four football related stars (either for teams or individuals), three musicians, two comedians and a radio soap opera, a sports commentator, a radio actor and Julie Walters. All deserving in their ways but I’d like your help to get a well deserving creative genius onto the walk of stars. Here’s what you need to do: 1) Go to the Walk...

Eccentric purchases

Eccentric purchases

The Eccentric Auction seems to have gone down well at the Anchor the other night (well there are people there in this photo and they’re not throwing stuff at the autioneers). Nicky Getgood was there and bought some kind of weird hamster thing. Not sure who one the prize draw, I’ll keep you posted… The team are also making a last call for any articles for the third edtion of The Eccentic City newspaper (more details on the site, deadline submitted material is Tuesday September 30th 2008). .

Eastside and Proud

Eastside and Proud

Being proud of where you live is an admirable trait, all told. Not in the sort of nationalistic ferver that is whipped up during global sporting tournaments, but proud in the way that you care what happens to your environment and the people that live there. Even if the “Kingstanding and Proud” signs spotted around the city do veer a little to close to factionalism, they’re well intended. But as kpmarek says over on Flickr, don’t you think these signs give off a little bit of a mixed message? I hate the way the police give up in some areas, signs like “if you leave anything on show, expect it to go” in car parks may as well say “we can’t be bothered. criminals, do what you like”. To mix up one of these white flags of crime with an “Eastside and Proud” message, isn’t it saying, just a bit: “We’re the boys from Eastside, we’ll nick your stuff.”

Noddy or Egg? An Easter Story

Noddy or Egg? An Easter Story

Zooming out of the Midlands, wrapped in shiny paper, only seen once every year, re-appearing with monotonous regularity before a major religious holiday. Can be found all year round in obscure places, dusty old Confectioner / Tobacconist / Newsagents in out-of-the-way suburbs.

Brum web feed starter kit

Jules is filling in for Pete Ashton over at Created in Birmingham while he is off being very drunk at the Guardian Media Awards and then SXSWi (how drunk he’ll be there is not established). She doesn’t quite follow the Brumterweb with the same slavish devotion  as me so I ‘put together’ (ahem, really just exported from Google Reader) an OMPL file of all the Brum blogs and search feeds I subscribe to. It’s a mess, as some no longer work and some of the searches also pull through what it is in some of the feeds, but it seemed odd to make it and not offer it up for anyone who wants. So tis here. Btw if there’s anything missing, please drop me a line.
