Dear Martin – an open letter

Martin Mullaney has taken over the position of City Council Cabinet member for leisure, sport and culture. That puts him in charge of swimming baths, football pitches, and even (in theory) Central Library. Whatever you may think of Cllr Mullaney, I personally like him but political people attract opinion, he’s an opportunity to have a fresh approach to all sorts of things. So here I present an open letter to our new cabinet member, to which you’re invited to add to (or argue with) in the comments — what should he be thinking of, who should he be talking to or listening to, what should he be doing? Dear Martin, I’m quite pleased to hear of your new appointment, a new broom has the opportunity to sweep that little bit harder and in different ways. As my local councillor I’ve always been impressed by your attitude to “getting on with” campaigning, your forthright manner, and even your honesty in admitting you’ve changed your views (on graffiti especially). Mullaney FM

Councillor 2.0 Martin Mullaney extends his media empire with a new podcast, a great idea which is sort of “Moseley Island Disks”. Martin has a chat to a Moseleyite and plays their five favourite records. First victim is Colin Troth, who helped get the Rotunda listed and features as one of the stories in 21 Stories, the film, photo exhibition and book about the Rotunda we keep praising to high heavens (currently on show at the Three White Walls Gallery in the Mailbox). Being councillor 2.0 doesn’t mean saying sorry after all

Martin Mullaney has announced that he won’t be saying sorry to the owner of the Moseley Tram depot after all: Both Councillors have now decided that they will NOT apologise. Councillor Hendricks has accepted the one month suspension. He now wishes to bring his involvement in this episode to a close and has decided not to appeal against the decision made against him. However, he remains committed to working to preserve this Grade II listed building Councillor Mullaney will be entering an appeal and is prepared to bring the issue to the High Court. As well as saving the building, the also issue has wider implications for other politicians, namely the freedom to investigate and the freedom to raise controversial issues. The finding of the Standards Committee prevents Councillors investigating contentious issues. He’s also giving out the full story here on his site. Previously.

Kings Heath’s Market Square

Famous for having its own ‘who’s what’ on the weekends Moseley isn’t having one, Martin Mullaney reveals plans for Kings Heath’s market square – on his blog and on youTube: I have to say it’s another Mullaney YouTube classic, they’re definately getting more confident – I loved the walk up intro, and tittered along with Martin when he mistakes the phone boxes for toilets (in speech only, but I don’t think he’s the first one to do it). Joking aside, let’s see more polititians get up to this sort of thing.
