Spit and Sauce, Us

Spit and Sauce, Us

Got a chance yesterday to pop into the mac (still a week or so before the opening, and work being done all over the building) and taste the catering. Yum. The building re-opens to the public on May 1st, with loads of events, a very much refurbed bar and café and free wifi streaming out into the park. The cinema, theatre and hexagon theatre have all had a spruce up and there’s now extra performance space around the building. Most impressive is the huge new gallery space — a vast room that already looks to be very flexible. The opening exhibition ‘Plug In’ is currently being installed, and features a ton of locally related art, including  a sound piece by Peter Cusack, photos by Stuart Whipps and this masterpiece too long out of sight: It’s also got the Brum word cloud in situ — have a quick look on the mac blog. Tag cloud for a city

You to choose five keywords that you associate with Birmingham — anything. The more frequent a word becomes, the larger it appears in the cloud. Email your brum words to: Neil.Holland@macarts.co.uk or twitter using the hashtag #brumwords.

If we say “new mac” it’s good for SEO

Dreadful stock music accompanies a 3D rendering of the new mac. It seems lively with transparent, if static, punters.

Artists commisioned for new MAC

When the MAC re-opens in Cannon Hill Park — next year — there are going to be a load of new piece of art, some inside and permanent, some outside, some transitory. You can see about some of them (with pics and video) on the macartists.co.uk site. One that especially caught my eye is described as: Amplifying The Map - Kate Chapman and Charlotte Goodwin are inviting people who live, work or play close to mac to re-discover familiar places and explore places they have never visited before, sharing their thoughts and observations to create an audio map of the changing landscape. There’s more info in the press release.
