Harry Palmer: The Eccentic City £3 funding aid appeal

Harry Palmer: The Eccentic City £3 funding aid appeal

For some readers, you might be aware that The Eccentric City – the world’s first dedicated eccentric tabloid newspaper, is co-published/founded by myself and Simon Walker. As part of our investment of all things eccentric, we have delved into the triumphs of commissioning, giving away £1 each month to a much needed inspired eccentric idea. We have commissioned all sorts of things from a fairground Buddhist video ride, through to an on the spot commission in which we later received a 200 word letter from a person sharing his life time philosophy. We have sought to inspire work by those who have written stories on sheets of foil through to seed planting in brownfield estates… All of this can be read (with updates as we get them) at www.eccentriccity.co.uk £3 Urgent Appeal. This month we have commission Anna Chrystal to make her personal version of a snow globe (quite fitting for this winter season, sorry, summer season). Anna is requiring £3 in addition to the £1 we have just sent to her. The art work will involve her interest in fantasy and photo documentary which will include a Tudor twist. So if anyone can help The Eccentric City and...

Harry Palmer: The Summer Edition 2009

Harry Palmer: The Summer Edition 2009

The Eccentric City thanks the Summer Edition 2009, Dublin, Ireland for a wonderful event and visit. Last weekend (July 4th 2009), myself and co-founder/publisher of The Eccentric City, visited The Summer Edition 2009: An Artist’s book, Comic and Zine Fair in Dublin, Ireland. We had no idea how large and how diverse this fair was going to be. Having had a brief correspondence with the organisers, it was clear that they were arranging an important event and one that we identified with. Importantly, Summer Edition 2009 was an opportunity to raise the profile of many independent artists working in Ireland and not just within Dublin itself. Many zine publishers alongside a large collection of comic makers attended and shared their work at Filmbase, Temple Bar. It was the first art and zine premier event to occur in Dublin. Small and discrete magazines as well as art catalogues and art/zine books, poets to printmakers and lowbrow artists – made for a highly stimulating environment, one that was occurring at grassroots and from the simple passion of DIY and beyond… Obviously, we took The Eccentric City newspaper and handed out many free emotional papers to strangers as well as giving a...

You can’t win a raffle without buying a ticket

Fancy a whole page of a newspaper to do what you like with? Some KLF-style “Abandon All Art Now” proclamation, or just a real big F— off to someone you hate? Can’t afford the £15,00 that would cost in The Guardian? How does a quid sound? The Eccentric City’s “international” prize draw offers just that. It’ll be drawn on Tuesday 23rd September 2008, at sometime after 7.30pm at the Anchor Pub in Digbeth. There’ll also be an Eccentric Auction and ale: “For those that made the Eccentric Auction last December will be familiar with the format. A cross between Ebay and a CarBoot, we sell items ranging from 3p to a little bit more it all depends on the crowd and what we have in our eccentric goodie bag! If you feel generous and eccentric enough to bring an item for the auction and to help us raise much needed funds for our free emotional newspaper, then please bring them along on the night! Thanks to Gerry at the Anchor Pub once more. He is also honouring us with another Eccentric Ale – The Butler and Lord Mayor Eccentric City beer.”
