NUJ – Rumours of more shake-ups at the Post & Mail

The NUJ claim to have seen "internal company documents " about Trinity Mirror "turning the Mail into an overnight paper and moving production of the Post to a bi-weekly or weekly publication" they say it's "scheduled to be announced in September". Grim news if true.

"Birmingham City Council is to allow cameras to routinely broadcast its meetings for the first time. Political debate will soon be broadcast on the internet, opening Birmingham City’s Council’s monthly showpiece meeting to a whole new audience." I'm sad enough to envisage watching tons of this.

The Evening Mail report with inordinate glee about a extra ‘l’ in a road sign pointing to St Philip’s Cathedral: “Council chiefs were left red-faced today after admitting that roadside signs directing drivers to the Cathedral Church of St Philip had been mis-spelt. The authority accepted an extra L had crept into a number of signs around the city centre, despite the presence of a large Church of England sign mounted outside the cathedral giving the correct spelling.” Well the church sign is tiny, I doubt the road sign was produced on the spot, and it’s always a bit dodgy to cry horror at a typo – especialy when you don’t notice the absense of the possesive apostrophe on the names of both churches on the sign you were moaning about. Come on Mail, you could have had two demoninations gving handwringing quotes.

Steve Dyson (Mail Editor)'s blog post on the Post & Mail re-invention has so far collected 63 comments, which to his credit he's responding to. It's a very interesting debate, although a unusual place to have it, as many of the commentors are staff. Proof that you can't hide anything these days, and a very useful read if you're interested in what goes on behind the scenes at your local papers.

"A NEW survey which brands the West Midlands the unfriendliest place in Britain has won a grumpy reception from Brummies." The Mail gets it half right by not giving the publicity seekers who comissioned the "research" any joy, but they still took it seriously enough to write a story.Brummies grumpy? F- off ;)
