According to Metroblogging Birmingham, we didn’t like the Bull Ring beach much. I’d have said we we’re positive, but underwhelmed. There’s no denying this skill in this sand sculpture of Ozzy Osbourne tho’ – apparently voted most famous Brummie by Bull Ring shoppers. The Pits?

I popped down to the Bull Ring this afternoon, with my flip-flops, windbreak and swingball – we love beaches at B:iNS (see we do). Despite the palm trees wicker parasols, it’s really just a 10m square sandpit – they do have podcast tho but as you need to be a ‘browse bullring’ member I’ve not bothered. It’s not a beach without water really, and ‘wednesday afternoon for grown-ups, with music supplied by galaxy’ doesn’t thrill either. Beach two has a big telly, beach three punch and judy, beach four scantily clad volleyballers. more pics here

you wait billions of years for a beach and then four come along all at once

my spies inform me of a record breaking fourth ‘beach’ to hit Brum this summer – this time in centernary square for the beach volley ball “urban gran prix” in August. Has someone got a job lot of sand? What I wouldn’t give to be a builders’ merchant right now.

Will there be any sand left at the coast? Beach number three hits Brum

In a dazzling display of originality, Brummies will be able to relax and enjoy the sun on a man-made beach in Brindley Place this summer. Actually, they might have had this idea first, who knows, but if you haven’t had enough sand and acres of white flesh in the city centre by June 16th the RNLI is opening ‘Birmingham-on-sea’. It’ll feature, donkeys, Punch and Judy, and the bloody civic society (or Mike Whitby, or Bull Ring management) foaming at the mouth (probably).
