Pleasure Places – A Brief History of Fun

Moseley Road Baths is apparently “the star of the show” on this programme on Channel 4 at 13.30 tomorrow (Monday 3/9). I’ll try and set the betamax, but maybe one of the unemployed, holidaying or “working from home” (oh yeah, jimmy hill etc) can tell us what happens. Supposedly you can watch on your computer too (click on ‘simulcast’ from this page), but as I’ve got a mac I doubt I will be.

Brollywood or bust?

There’s been a bit in the press about possible plans for a film studio in Birmingham – and how it would attract more media (well money it means) into the area. The article lists how many programmes made requests to film in Brum in the last couple of years (Totally Jodie Marsh, anyone?) – almost all were factual programmes that used exclusively location shots. Was this because we don’t have a studio, or is it because the days of the studio are pretty much numbered and most programmes are shot this way now. With HD it’s more difficult and expensive to get a studio to look good – location work is going to be even more prevalent in drama too. Carrott shows his balls

Jasper Carrott is about to make his debut as a quiz host on daytime ITV, hosting Goldenballs – apparently a bizarre mash-up of ‘Deal or No Deal’, ‘The Weakest Link’ and ‘Ant ‘n’ Dec’s Pokerface’. According to our source, who was present at recording it’s “confusing as hell”. Look forward to it on Monday 18th June at 5pm.

Made in Birmingham all those years ago, TISWAS was truly great TV. I remember it well – despite my Dad taking our telly to work on Saturday mornings, when he was on overtime, so he could watch it.I even got to sit in the studio once, beside the cage, so I’m thrilled to learn that a TISWAS REUNITED show is coming to ITV this spring.Okay, it’ll be all talking head rubbish – and not filmed in Brum as there are no studios left – but I’ll be watching.Via OTT

the stagemanaged “fight” between Brum and Manchester reaches a crescendo on Inside Out tonight on BBC ONE. What you won’t know – and might maybe care about – is that I’ll be on News 24 at around 12.30 tomorrow for a live interview all about it. Don’t go flippin’. UPDATE> and if i can get into town (three hours to get home!) for 9.20 tomorrow morning i’ll be on Breakfast News (bbc one i think)
