Tears on my pillow (if i hit you too hard)

Brummob will be having a big flashmob pillow fight at 3pm today (3 Oct) in Chamberlain Square “by the big telly”. I hope to pop along for a look, and I hope that they find the venue, what with the telly having gone now.

Load of old Kaka?

You know how some football mad dads give their kids the name of an entire football team? Well Lynam Athletic of the Birmingham Coronation League Alliance Division 3 have done something similar – if Quirky News are to be believed – but instead of angry mum to placate there’s 17. Each of the squad members has changed their name to that of a top footballer leaving a backline of Paulo Maldini, Cafu, John Terry and Fabio Cannavaro with Ruud van Nistelrooy up front. Captain John Terry, 29, said: “We’re not in the best shape anyway as both Thierry and Ruud smoke about twenty a day and Gerrard is always half cut on a Sunday – nothing like their namesakes.” Not sure if this has the ring of truth, as any fella who has to go into work on Monday and tell people he’s now to be know as Kaka surely wants more than a couple of spots in the tabloids and blogs. Even if he does work in IT.

King lack incident

King lack incident

Today is the 30th anniversary of the death of the king of rock and roll and I thought I’d mark the occasion with a run down of Birmingham’s top Elvis impersonators. Armed with the trusty Google search engine I went out to find them – I discovered two things: There aren’t many Brum based Elvis Tribute Acts, at least with an online presence Elvis impersonators by rule have really awful websites The two Elvis impersonators I did find were Adrian Nash (who’s pictured above) and Mark Green (of whom only a BBC vox-pop seems to be on the web). I’m sure there are many more – in fact I’m sure there was a fella who did well in a GMTV competition who I bumped into once in the Old Railway – do you know of any?

fighting on the beaches

Adrian Goldberg, out of The Stirrer, has done a piece for Radio 4′s You and Yours all about the fight betwixt the council and the bullring over the two (count ‘em) fake beaches we’ll be getting in Brum this summer. It seems to have been treated as a bit of light relief from the Radio 4 lot – but raises a fine point about how it’ll look when we get the inevitable downpours (building site anyone?). Good to hear some Brummie voices on the radio, although Rich Batsford’s falsetto Beach Boys cover wasn’t as welcome as his amusing comments – the most disturbing part was hearing Council Leader Mike Whitby using the phrase ‘chill out’ on a couple of occasions. Cool Maaan. You’ll find a ‘Listen Again’ link here soon enough – it’s about 40 mins into the programme.
