Frankie Lee

We’re saddened to hear of the passing of Frankie Lee who was something of a legendary DJ at the Mecca Roller Rink, Summer Row. He also span the wheels of steel at the Heartbeat Disco at the Silver Blades Ice Rink and the Opposite Lock Club. He’d also been the landlord at the Ben Johnson, the OCs and the Tally Ho club.

I knew Frankie through working for EMI in the 70’s and 80’s. He was by a very great distance the best club manager in the UK. His awareness of music and love of musicians was tremendous. I also knew his family who must be missing him so much. He was a good friend to many and I count myself very very lucky to count him amongst my close friends in Birmingham.  If you read this Mary please accept my condolences and my thoughts are with you at this time. I have been in USA and didn’t know until my cousin called and said Johnny Walker had mentioned Franks passing on Sounds of  of the 70’s. Please call me on 01189 344 799 if you have time. Love to you and all your family. Wally Slaughter.
