Photography Project: Take a photo of your first/lasting impression of Birmingham.
Before moving to Birmingham to start university, I always used to visit to go to gigs at the Carling Academy in Dale End. I loved the atmosphere at this venue and the music scene within the city is one of the reasons why I wanted to move here. This venue is now closed, and a new shiny 02 Academy has been opened to replace it. However I always like the grimy underground feel of this place and it’s surroundings. And as it is a minute walk from my halls this year I thought it was the perfect photo opportunity. To make the photograph more interesting I shot it with a semi fish-eye lens, and added a gradient map later (we were banned from any major editing) for an aged photograph look and a sense of nostalgia. R.I.P old academy!
