Brum Ghost Walk on The Gadget Show this Monday

The Gadget Show will feature the darker side of Birmingham in its episode due to be broadcast on Monday 2nd May 2011. “To try out posture-enhancing shoes, presenter Jon Bentley joined one of Birmingham Ghost Walk’s two regular guides, Ian Braisby, who led the group around the Jewellery Quarter and into the city centre, telling tales of hauntings, murders and dark deeds from the city’s past. With some coaching from Ian, Jon Bentley, armed with a hangman’s noose, told the story of the last public hanging in Birmingham. Ian, a Blue Badge Tourist Guide based in the city, was also filmed trying and discussing the shoes, which contrasted with the Victorian undertaker style outfit he wears for all of the tours.” More information on Birmingham Ghost Walks.

Sounds of a dying library by Mr.Underwood

"On Sunday morning I attended the 4am Project / Project Brutal event held at Birmingham’s Central Library. With the building of Birmingham’s new library underway and with the chance to gain access outside of the normal opening times I felt this opportunity was not to be missed. Despite 4am Project being a photographic project I agreed in advance that I would mainly be recording the sounds within the library. This aspect fascinated me on two levels. Firstly, a library is meant to be a place of silence, “Shhhhh, people are trying to read”, but what we perceive as silence is just our ability to block out some sounds and not others. I wanted to focus in on these sounds as well as discovering what other sounds I might find in parts of the building one wouldn’t normally gain access to. Secondly, with the proposed demolition of the existing library, I considered this to be an opportunity to record the dying breathes of the building."

Help to get news Misty’s Big Adventure LP out PledgeMusic

Help to get news Misty’s Big Adventure LP out PledgeMusic: Our new album, The Family Amusement Centre, is nearly ready to release. But this time, we’re doing it slightly differently. When I first started writing songs, I thought the key thing was to be original and to make music for music’s sake. Listening to mainstream radio goes to show this isn’t what they want in Music Industry Land. And good luck to them. For while the walls tumble in on the record company men, dreaming up new ineffective ways to stop music piracy, PledgeMusic have worked out a practical way forward where both the artist and listener benefit. It’s a fairly simple premise. We offer to sell you some good stuff, you buy some good stuff and then we spend your money on making more good stuff. And not a penny goes to the people who would otherwise be telling us to ditch the dancing monster and for me to get a haircut. I’m holding out for as long as possible. Right, we’d like to offer you the chance to get the album first, before it’s available anywhere else. In addition to this, we’ll make available a whole range...
