Brummie of the Year 2010 — Nominations Open

That may be so, and he may be innocent, but he doesn’t live here and
hasn’t done in the last year and that’s what Brummie of The Year is about. Getting people to come over here and just flood this page with comments without them actually reading, or thinking, about what this is about doen’t achieve anything (although I’m sure it may raise awareness but 1 post about Gary would have done that more effectively)

I’d like to nominate Greg Elwell, commanding Officer of Oldbury Air Cadets. Despite losing his job at Brum City council recently, Greg has fought on to make Oldbury air cadets one of the biggest units in the country.

Greg works tirelessly day and night to ensure the 86 13-18 year olds he supports do things that can only be expressed as once in a lifetime opportunities every week. His work as seen Oldbury go from one of the lowest ranked units, to the Best unit in Staffordshire and potentially the best in the UK nominated for awards such as the Less Trophy (for best Air Cadet Squadron).

He has ensured cadets from deprived areas have visited countries like Canada, and have got involved with their local community, including veteran associations. He has worked with young people out of work to write CVs and get a job, and has kept young people off the streets.

I think his work for the young people of the area is a credit to Brum, and he should be honoured as such!

no Mr F with respect, Gary was taken from Birmingham whilst visiting London. Obviously you have Read up but now choose to use the wrong information to detach him from Birmingham. He is being held now in Norwich and has been held all over our country. But hear this my friend…. Could He have struck a man 27 times with a Hammer without getting one drop of the victims blood on himself. i know you would question this but what would you believe on knowing it is a true fact. Brummie for the last 30yrs i say !!!!

I’d like to nominate Greg Elwell for Brummie of the Year because of all of his work with the Air Cadets on oldbury. Hes worked hard to make 888 the best in the country and we’re gonna win the lees trophy for best squadron thanks to him. He spends all his time helping all of the cadet and i think he should get something back from us.

My nomination for Gary was purely to raise awareness of his artistic ability and of course the fact that this Brummie has been wrongly imprisoned for 30yrs but still has his sanity fully intact. maybe if all Brummies had a fraction of Garys determination and resolve you wouldn`t need this site to defend against the majority of the rest of the countries opinion that Birmingham is infact Shit !!! People make a City what it is and looking at some of the derogative comments made towards Gary and the fact that the people who run this site have not even opened voting knowing Gary would win. are part of the reason we Brummies have to constantly defend who we are as people. Good luck to Gary in his fight for Justice he has my full support and the support of thousands of GOOD people.
