Sion, MP for Erdington and Minster for Culture Media and Sport is standing down. Tom Watson tells us: "My colleague Sion Simon thinks mayors are going to be introduced whoever wins the next election. So he’s standing down as an MP to put his name forward as Mayor of Birmingham."

Mayor Simon? It's got a ring to it, and he'd certainly be a more serious candidate than any other we've heard mentioned. [link]

Erm, actually the Tories have promised referenda which makes Sion's decision to resign for a job that may never exist all the more ridiculous. Anyway, Jon, I thought you were his competition.

I thought Birmingham had already voted on whether we wanted an elected Mayor and had rejected the idea. Do we have to keep on voting until we say "yes"?
  • The Tories have said, no votes you're having them.
