How much is being spent on Birmingham's "bid" for the World Cup? — Help Me Investigate

I've mentioned that I'm interested in why Brum needs to "bid" to be a venue in a possible World Cup in England (it's the second city and you'd think a default) — so I'm wondering how much it might be costing to bid. If it's not much, then it's worth it for the video of Mike Whitby heading a ball, but if it's a vast amount then it will seem wasted. Pop over to crowdsourcing investigative journalism site HMI to see if you can help. [link]

Is 'bidding' of this nature (for something one expects to be a shoe-in – er, Villa Park, central location) compatible with the actions of say, SWM? SWM 'lures' 'Hustle' to Brum by spending public money. Who funds 'Hustle'? The public! BBC money that's what!

A pleas to 'Help me Investigate' – reheat that pot which went cold when reporters realised that investigation of SWM funds and expenses might end one gravy train of free lunches and 'networking' receptions.

I'm not sure of the Hustle case, I do think it's important that we attract media into the city (it'd be even better if they were actually _setting_ it here rather than using it as a cheap location).

But if you've anything you'd like to investigate then pop yourself over to helpmeinvestigate.com and sign-up — it only works if people that care ask the questions, and you can ask anything you like.
