Deirdre Alden forms the Republic of Quinton

"Mentioned as far back as the 1840s (when it was referred to as The Quinton), and a part of Birmingham since November 1909, this month the Royal Mail has officially recognised Quinton as a postal address… many people (me included!) had sometimes been adding the word "Quinton" to B32 addresses anyway, but… it wasn't part of the official postal address." I do hate official postal addresses – Bearwood isn't featured in official post office addresses in B67; you have to put “Smethwick”, even though Smethwick itself is a good 5 or 10 minute bus ride away. Presumably it's like that because Bearwood is served by the Smethwick delivery office, but I say independence for Bearwood! Maybe I should start adding it to my address in protest? I think I shall.
