Science bit’s pretty good but if i remember anything from my half attempted Physics degree it’s that that calculation is for an ‘ isotropic’ field of radiation. ie the sound waves travelling equally in all directions. In the real world speakers are anything but isotropic and are designed to pump sound wave energy out roughly in one direction so the calculation needs to be tweaked accordingly. Another side note is that there’s another pub down the road from the Rainbow (which shall remain nameless) which occasionally has some impressive speaker stacks and DJ’s set up in the beer garden, i’m wondering if the complainants have actually heard this and mistook the noise for the Rainbow. Moot point anyhoo as the original point still stands, why bloody move to an established area of live interest then moan when the Cockrel crows!?.
