Total Voters: 982

The nominees were:

Adam Smith (aka Steve Zacharanda), for showing just how to deal with breaking history. Get in there and get pissed.

TWMDriver – Brum’s best blogging bus driver, who has come from nowhere to become a fixture online and on Les Ross. All whilst staying anonymous, a bit.

Johnny Doom, the voice of metal in Brum. Late night DJ for Kerrang! Radio and previously lead vocalist of the band Doom.

Little Chris of Brumcast. Brumcast plays only music from the Midlands’ underground, dedicated to showing that there’s more to the area than Black Sabbath and UB40 (there is?). And Little Chris has been doing it off his own bat. One hundred and eleven times so far.

Roshan Doug. Writer, poet and internet troll. Roshan is loved and hated in fairly equal measure, based on reading the comments on his Birmingham Post blog.

Pogus Caesar. In the year of his retrospective exhibition, can one of Birmingham’s best known photographers snap to victory?

Paul Murphy of the Destroyers (see some video). Paul has called Birmingham home for over 30 years and has been a vocal supporter of songwriting and live music in his adopted city.

Helga Henry, creative industy all round good egg. Runs a mean tea stall too, and is loved a great deal.

Barbara Nice, “From crowd surfing to crap raffles… Barbara is the queen of comedy”.

The poll closed at midnight on Saturday 13th December.

I know I'm probably being really thick and I've read the post over and over again but I can't see how to vote.

Did I miss a link or summfing?
  • Hi Ben, it's right in the middle of the post. Have you got javascript on?
  • I met Mrs Barbra Nice at the 2007 Edinburgh fringe, and I’ve since performed with her in Wolverhampton, and given her a lift to and from that gig (getting lost in brum with her because one of the tunnels was closed was an immensely odd but fun experience)

And I’ve also been on BBC 3 with her, locked in a box playing children’s games with 6 other would be comics. This was odd as well, especially when performing "work class hero" and "ring of fire" with her

So she has to get my vote, a fantastically funny stand up who appeals to all, and a very nice lady to boot.
  • How can you force me to choose between Helga Henry and Barbara Nice? What are you trying to do to me?!
  • Torn between Johnny Doom (ex-student of Birmingham City University; taught him on a couple of modules; all round good guy) and Pogus Caesar (stalwart of the media sector; 20 years ago he gave a talk to us City & Guilds students and was inspiring and also said nice things about the video I had made).

    Good list all told.
  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BARBRA NICE

Barbara Nice that is Barbara as in Streisand and Nice as in the Biscuit

When asked by one of her five sons whether she knew Words for Windows she
thought about it for ages and the only word she could come up with was fenêtre

    Barnard
  • C'mon its all about Little Chris! The guy is a legend, holding it down for all the unsigned and underground goodness in birmingham for all styles of music AND he's not an arse! GO YOU BEAST!!
  • rob
i voted for barbra nice who is a great performer ,house wife and mother , and advocate for the number 50 bus route , however friends have tried to vote since sunday and they cannot see the link to vote !!!! i feel this is unfair ....are they missing something or is there something up with the page ? please help and fix it ..... as Barbra would be winning now :)
  • Hi rob,

If you (or anyone) sees the results instead of the voting buttons then someone else using the same computer (or the same IP - internet address, sometimes an office will share one) has already voted. It's only possible to vote once per computer.
  • Andy Westcott
Like I said before, Birmingham without Doom is like Catchphrase without Mr Chips. I have nothing more to add at this time. Doom all the way.
  • Rosetta
