Just So You Know, Conrad actually has two other children Myself Ben and my sister Emily. I am 16 and she is 13, but by reading the comment you left, you arent aware of this. My dad has no contact with us other than a single christmas and birthday card that is written by his wife and posted to us. We have not spoken to him in 6 years, because we used to see him every weekend, but eventually he just stopped seeing us. I was a little concerned you didnt have the “full picture” when I read you comment about being committed to his family – I just thought you would like to know the situation.

I agree with Sam. If you want someone who is controversial and not afraid to appear non-pc, then Roshan Doug is your man. As a columnist he is something else and has certainly made me take notice. And… I read his poetry collection about 9/11. I was impressed how lyrical and moving it was… nothing like his columns!

Sorry Jon, I know you’re looking for other nominations but I’m afraid I’m going to have to throw all of my support behind the fabulous, inspirational and unique Helga Henry. An hilarious, supportive, all-knowing, intuitive, supremely generous and kind ambassador of the creative sector (and everyone in it), the city of Birmingham and life itself!

Helga is a living legend and although I have only been in Birmingham for 3 years, she has, without doubt, been the main cause of making it feel like my home. She’s my own super-hero and surrogate mum and I will right behind Dean if she doesn’t win. As far as I’m concerned, she’s been my Brummie of the Year for three years and if I can help in making that official, all the better. Bring on the voting!!

I’d like to nominate Kings Heath housewife and superstar Barbara Nice.

“Barbara as in Streisand, Nice as in the biscuit”, has put Kings Heath and In Shops on the map. Anyone who can extract 30 minutes of comedy from 2 musical snowmen she bought from a pound shop must be up for some type of award. And if any of you saw “Hiya and Hiya” this year, you will know that she truly is a woman to be reckoned with. Her shows make you glad to be alive.

From crowd surfing to crap raffles… Barbara is the queen of comedy and is a worthy nominee in my book. While she is Kings Heath’s most famous inhabitant I don’t know if she was born here, but at any rate, a brummie by adoption, and we’re very glad to have her.

(And I am the Helga mentioned above, so if I don’t get another chance I’d just like to thank all the people who have been so generous in their comments!).

I’d also like to nominate Conrad Newbold for his inspirational and tireless commitment to creating innovative opportunites for employment among young people and people who are unemployed in the West Midlands. He is a joy to work with and makes me laugh every day.

Watching him influence and guide people to think differently and find a way around potential barriers is really inspiring.

Conrad is committed to his family and West Brom footbal team – he seems to go to every match and goes abroad to support England too. He supports his son who plays for the young West Brom team (or whatever it’s called). He is a school governor and works tirelessly with schools and colleges across the West Midlands promoting ingenious ways to attract people to careers in the NHS. Great guy. Thanks Conrad

I would like to nominate Helga Henry as Brummie of the year for her passion, joy, creativity and love. Helga creates opportunities at every turn and encourges people to enjoy all that is Birmigham. She is a fabulous coach, catalyst and challenger of the mundane. Helga sees the creative potential in people especially when it is hidden from their view. She also introduced me to fabulous The Lord Clifton pub in Hockley, the Red Lion pub in the JQ and is an essential quiz member.
