I can’t help but feel that seems a bit disingenious, Frankie. It’s fairer to describe what Midge was doing as blogging ‘about’ Gigbeth. What you write is A) part of the Gigbeth site (inescapably, when you consider the permalink/comment problem); and B) using ‘we’ when talking about Gigbeth policy (“we are no longer taking applications to play at the festival”, for example).

If it’s genuinely not meant to be Gigbeth’s official line then you may want to warn people of this beforehand rather than after.

I’ve still no idea what the whole thing is meant to actually be, of course, but that’s another question.

Hey Frankie, you’re right – but when you’re blogging for Gigbeth it _is_ sort of Gigbeth’s voice. The ill feeling was probably compounded by the lack of comments etc on the Gigbeth blog at the mo’.

Midge was being snipy in the ‘fine’ tradition of everyone who immediately dismisses bands they don’t like as “shite”, christ you should hear what I say about 99% of bands I hear. It’s no reflection of the amount of effort they put in, or who ever else likes them, music divides people passionately — that’s a lot of the fun.

Hey I agree, I wrote the post and I shouldn’t have brought Simon Cowell into the equation! Midge was perfectly entitled to his opinion, I just got a bit passionate!

However, people need to remember that it wasn’t Gigbeth who was getting defensive, it was me. I don’t organise the event, I blog about it and about music in Birmingham so It was my harsh line, not theirs.
