Bob Warman, Anchorman

With huge cuts to ITV’s local news output announced, we’re going to get less local news and less characters like Bob Warman (who in an Anchorman-style twist when to school with Nick Owen).

Here’s Bob interviewing Rusty Lee:

The opening of the first Central News:

Huge amounts of Central nostalgia over at centraltelevision.co.uk.

Apparently Miss Kite has taken over the weather watch at Central.Let's hope for more strong gales to blow her away.
  • dave_n
Sack Sameena Ali-Khan. let Bob Warman get a breath from carrying her through 30 mins of crap presenting! Oh and get rid of Lucy Kite, she loves herself more than eveything.
  • Jon
I think Lucy Kite makes an other wise tired show a joy to watch, bubbly and pretty, the perfect girl next door.
  • Brad
Reading between the lines I think the general opinion of Lucy Kite whoever she is, is not very forgiving.
If there is a producer of Central News reading this it would make sense to GET RID of her and then maybe people would find something more entertaining to write about.
  • surf
    more lucy kite please !
  • Alan
Didn't Kite present Sky high previously? I think so.Get rid, she's not good T.V.
  • Pat Mycock
For Gods sake give us back Central Tonight as it was befores Big Brother took over. Without Lucy Kte please.
  • J
does anyone know if Yvonne Gaskill has found a new job and is she still on television ?
  • michael fish
emma and charlie replaced by a grinning bimbo, what is central playing at
  • jumbo
does anyone know where Charlie Neil the weather girl from Central is now working?
  • S.Hagg
Dunno . I gave up watching when Lucy Kite took over the Weather. That girl just loves herself!!!
  • Al Vechurch
Poor old Central. It's gutting to watch this programme nowadays. Hiring Sameena Ali-Khan has proved to be utterly catastrophic. She is a truly terrible, terrible presenter. The sport girl with the chilling stare (Annette) seems completely out of her depth as well. And where's Yvonne Gaskill and Emma?

Sure, programmes have to change and develop but this prog has all but lost EVERYTHING.

Thank God for Keith Wilkinson, Mark Gough, Sandy Barton and of course Bob Warman. He's earning his pension now have to do half of Sameena's work as well.

Still- not as bad or cosy as Midlands Today
  • Tim
I really don't know what all this fuss about Central News is achieving. The answer is quite simple,if everyone stops watching dead wood then it will be removed from our screens and MAYBE someone with a little intelligence will provide us with a good all round news programme with presenters we can put up with , not the twittering non entities we now have to suffer (Warman not included)
  • jan
Because I believe she was sacked along with Charlie and Emma , God only knows why they retained Lucy Kite, probably because she was cheap in comparison to the others
  • John the Baptiste
Central news has bitten the dust. It's now at rock bottom. God only knows why Bob Warman is still hanging on.
  • John Bounds
Apparently Lucy Kites days are numbered. If she doesn't come up to the weather standards set by Jesson she's OUT.............
  • Nice to see my late uncle commenting from beyond the grave there.
  • Jan Moone
Why is Arti not on the news now
  • Brian
Why O why has central tv news changed.?
I use to watch central news every day at 6 o'clock but now its not the same and i dont bother. The old gang has we call the Bob. Jo. Mark. Keith. Charlie & emma they was great fun and allso serious but now i dont enjoy it. Has for the goals on a monday night we dont see them has they are talking to so called experts LET SEE THE GOALS. Please
Has for lucy kite. I like her bubbly & attractive like jo but i'm a male thats why most of the women dont like her.
Has she is attractive very easy on the old eyes.
But Please bring back the old gang they were worth every penny they was paid. But till then i wont bother with central news.
  • Marcus
Charlie and Emma, sadly missed. And, after all they've done for Central TV. Two very well established, warm and welcoming faces to brighten even the miserable of days. It was such a pleasure waking up in the morning to Charlie and Emma and of course last thing at night.

I have every confidence that both Charlie and Emma will continue to enjoy success and prosperity in their new endeavours.

    Good luck girls.
  • jumbo
Hang your head in shame for getting rid of Charlie Neil and replacing her with third rate weather presenters who are not up to it,as for the sport coverage it is now totally rubbish, I now watch B.B.C for News in the East Midlands at 18-30 each day and presented by ex preseters from Central, so give it a go,you just might be pleasently surprised.
  • jill anstis
My husband and I watch central news every night, could you please tell us where Emma Jesson has gone to?, we miss her as she has lovely personality. Thank you.
  • Anne
Steve Clamp did the job before Bob Warman for East Midlands
  • Donny
Who the hell is Steven Clamp ? What's he got to do with Bob Warman and Central News ? I say get rid of the lot !!! inc. Lucy Kite.
  • Anne Smith
Why is Bob Warman back? He is from Birmingham Central. He is tired and old fashionerd. Steven Clamp was wet. Dont know where he's gone but not missing him. If you can't find better than Bob Warman then please readvertise the job as in the normal workplace! Can't watch you any more.
  • Joyce
I despair with central News.Have the producers no morals between them? Dispensing with all the regular staff and presenters. What the hell are they playing at? If Bob Warman had any sense he would abandon ship pretty sharpish,he's in a danger zone surrounded by non entities. They should hand the anchor spot over to Lucy Kite and finish off the program once and for all.
  • jane jesson
Nobody of any interest or talent. Just somebody trying desperately to be noticed.
  • jane jesson
Who Is Lucy Kite anyway ??
  • david
im sending an email to central news boss to bring back lucy kite !
  • Joanne
What has happened to Bob hall??Has he taken voluntary redundancy as well?Or was he pushed. It's a shame we lost such a great team(sic).Still I just wanted to say I hate watching Central Tonight and am moving to the Beeb for local news.A bit more stability there.
  • Lesley
Just wanted to say Bob is looking great....love watching central news!!
  • Hugh Jass
Lucy is really trying to impress isn't she,but failing miserably. There's no real interest there. She needs something more to occupy her vanity. How about presenting the sport section, she hasn't tried that yet.Could be a good move following Linda O'Brian STRAIGHT OUT THE DOOR.
  • helen thompson
As I thought Charlie has been made redundant as well
  • helen thompson
Just looked Emma Jesson up on wilkipedia this is what it said aaahhhhhh.
I assume Charlie has gone as well.

Since February 2009, after the ITV regional news cuts, Jesson took a voluntary redundancy and now works on a freelance basis. As Lucy Kite is now the main weekday forecaster for ITV Central, Emma's slot has now been moved to weekends, where she can be seen presenting weather forecasts for both the Central and Granada regions.
  • helen thompson
well done s.hag I love the one about magicians assistant...
  • david
BOB WARMAN IS AN OLD DINOSAUR BRING BACK LUCY KITE SHE'S BRILLIANT ! I DO HOPE WE'LL SEE MORE OF HER !
  • Margaret Reynolds
Please can you tell me what has happened to Emma and Charlie on Central Weather/
My husband is very upset hw has not seen them for a while.
    Thank you.
    M. Re3ynolds
  • S. Hag
Whats going on at central ? Where have all the regulars gone ? Whats happened to the Sport section ? Why is Bob Warman still there (get out while the goings good Bob),the coffins just about to be nailed shut!!!!
Who let Lucy Kite loose on the Weather? That woman loves the camera far too much. She'd be better suited as a magicians assistant.
  • Lee King
Personally I wouldn't give Lucy Kite a job serving coffee in the Central canteen. Her self obsessed posturing is nauseating beyond belief, especially given her obvious lack of talent. To give her the weather job is a gross insult to Charlie Neil and Emma Jesson. Lucy has no more right to present the weather than I have to lecture on quontum physics.

All those excellent presenters gone, to be replaced by a pool of bland non entities.

Bring back the old guard or it's the BBC for me!
  • Johnny Comelately
Its appalling how central news have shed all there regular broadcasters and replaced them with unknowns from another Region. That's me finished . I'm off to BBC.
  • Mr Angry
Where the hell has ALL the regulars gone off Central................???? I agree get Lucy Kite off the weather, she's hopeless. Far to girly girly for anything sensible.Tries to be alluring and fails miserably.
  • david
LUCY KITE IS GOURGOUSE GIVE HER A CHANCE ! i do hope she will be back its great to see that lovley smilling face
  • Pennie Smith
In answer to most of the above comments,I'm afraid ITV have a huge ageism problem. They feel that if the presenter is not appealing enough they will lose viewers and, as some obscure poll has suggested we the public much prefer pretty young faces reading our News and weather. (Sad)
So,the likes of Neil, Jesson, Malin Bailye etc.have been put out to grass in a desperate attempt to up the ratings.
The only way to overcome this invasion of airheads on our screens is to complain in vast numbers to Central News(which i for one am doing).
The shape of things to come? It sure looks that way.....

PS You don't get these issues on the BBC

PPS Give Lucy Kite a proper desk job OFF our screens.Weather girl?God help us.
  • Jilly Johnson
Lucy Kite ad libbing the weather???????? Whats going on.How many forecasters do you need?? For goodness sake if Central are that desperate to give Ms Kite something to do put her outside to grass.....Unbelievable.
  • HELEN THOMPSON
We have enjoyed watching the news with Bob and Sameena Ali-Khan she has filled the gap perfectly.

And now Lucy Kite is the weather girl!! what on earth is going on with her. I am not a fan at all but all this moving people around in Lucy's case from entertainment reporter to stand in anchor to weather girl talk about setting the girl up to fail.

I am of the oppion that she had major flaws as a entertainment reporter as she wanted to be in front of the camera more than her guests but now she cant be taken seriously.

I think she needs to go now. She looked fed up anyway telling us about the weather.
  • Gladys Friday
Come on. Lucy Kite is an amateur presenter doing her best to get noticed which seems to have worked judging by the above comments.
An overly confident ladette in presenters clothing would be a more apt description I feel.Either way it looks like she's gone so we can all sleep easier in our beds tonight
  • bob morgan
Lucy Kite is by far the best on tv,pretty and very confident
  • Sue Wage
AT LAST...............................someone has seen the light and got rid of Lucy Kite.It took a while but we got there in the end. Now if you could just do the same with Linda O'Brian that WOULD be cool.Bobs new assistant is quite acceptable.I think she came from another local network so already has the experience which of course Ms.Kite didn't have.
But I do agree with Mr. Kane. What has happened to Yvonne Gaskill and Arti Halia ?????
  • Anthony Alleyne
What's wrong with you old 'fuddyduddies?' The likes of Lucy Kite, Annette Finch and Sameena Ali-Khan, they're a breath of fresh air and are a great 'phase-in' for those whom are retiring or being phased out.

Some people are so stuck in their habits.

I too love Bob Warman. To me he IS ATV Today and Central Tonight, but you don't expect him to be bringing our news when he's 80 or 90 years of age, do you? What about his family and those closest to him?

A lot of us don't really like change, but when it comes to being jealous of or critisizing the likes of Lucy,Annette or Sameena, just because you're 'habitual and conditioned' to the same mundane routine every day, I think it's time you woke up to 2009.

Go on, lift the duvet from off your head, I dare ya!!
  • Mike O'Cane
While all this furor about Lucy Kite is raging, has anyone noticed that Yvonne Gaskille and Arti Halai have also vanished from our screens. Who is the blonde reading the Central News during the mornings? Seems to have been slotted in well.
We all remember the movie"Invasion of the Body Snatchers" don't we.That would be interesting....."Cloning News" featuring Sir Bobby Warman and a selection of perfectly cloned wanabees..the younger the better.
  • Linda O'Brian
Why DOES Lucy Kite irritate so many so much..... ????
  • phil
You are quite right sir, Ms. Kite is well out of her depth and the sooner her bosses realise it the better. I too have switched to the BBC local news.
Let's face it ageism has reared its ugly head good and proper on Central News..
  • BOBBY DAZZLER
Lucy Kite has to be the most vacuous, self-satisfied, airhead on TV. She makes Anthea Turner look like Kate Adie. She was appalling when she had her own slot interviewing celebrities- and mugging to camera at every opportunity. Now she's completely out of her depth and has no interest in any of the stories.

Bob Warman has little chemistry with her...much to his credit. When she made a "joke" about his age recently, not only was it disrespectful...but she probably managed to alienate most of the mature viewers.

I've emailied the boss at Central TV to make my opinions clear. You should all try it. [sorry, publishing people's email addresses with permission isn't nice - JB]
  • GERALD BAILEY
CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I AM READING ABOUT LUCY KITE. I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY ME SHE IRRITATED. I HAVE STATED WATCHING BBC LOCAL NEWS THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. GOOD RIDDANCE.
  • phil
    OH GOSH......................SHE'S BACK.
  • Angie
With any luck Miss Kite has got the message (which appears to be unanimous) and left the building, now,if Linda O'Brian could do the same that would be GREAT.
Oh and for any kiddies out there Newsround is on around 5.00pm on BBC1 which usually has some young girly types presenting .
  • Lee
Can'not belive how much drivel i have read on Lucy Kite. Most of you are Dinasours remenising the dead wood on the news, i myself like the input of a newby... Sure Jo was great but she moved on when she had to and thank god lucy took her place. She looks great and has a youthful girly side to her which i for one love. And shes proven she can hold her own against the likes of Bob Warman. I say leave her alone she is good at what she does and is great on the eye.
  • Lesley
great to see the old team on the box tonight!
agree with edward Bob a legend.
  • john
    totally agree

good to see llewela Bailey hasnt left yet
  • Edward
    Bob Warman.

    Legend.
  • Jerry
Glad to see the regular team back tonight.. Looks like Lucy got the message and flown away. (hopefully)
  • papabravo
Lucy Kite is the best presenter to appear on Central News. She's a charming breath of fresh air after some of the wooden heads [and that includes some well known names] that we've had for so long. She's converted me to Central News instead of BBC!
  • hi there i am from Ireland and i watch itv central as our news is so full of doom and gloom and i think that Lucy Kite is such a charm to see on the news and she is bubbly and just a yong women at heart she makes the news somewhat more upbeat and easier to watch than some pruned face stickle of glum ,much more pleasing to the ear and most definate to the eye god bless you lucy, central keep her shes one in a million, she greattttttttttttttttttttttttt.
  • jed
    HERE HERE !!!!!!
  • Ann Diamond
For goodness sake who is Linda O'Brians stylist ? Talk about in need of a makeover..... Where an earth do they get these people from? I think the producers at Central News need to get there act together and find the RIGHT type of person for the position created..In a nutshell lose O'Brian ,Kite and the like, spend a while checking out the BBC local News then TRY and get a decent team of presenters together using what few of the original staff they have left.
  • Lesley
Great to see Bob back on Central News, I was wondering why we had not seen him on tv. Hope his illness
was nothing to serious!!! Welcome back Bob.

Going to see Jo Malin at the Lichfield Garrick tonight in Dick Whittington. Should be good, as Steve who plays King Rat will be on stage with her.

    Happy New Year!!
  • helen thompson
here here please keep Bob and ditch the others
  • Allan
At last.Normality is back. The Central News regulars, exactly what we want....... but I bet it wont last.
  • Heather
    WELCOME BACK BOB WARMAN!

hope you're fully recovered. It's good to see you back. It just hasn't been the same without you.
  • Karl
Just found out some great news

Bob Warmen is back on central tonight from friday 2nd Jan at 6
  • karl
missed central tonight over last few weeks - busy at work - any more news on how Bob Warman is or when hes coming back?
  • Joyce
Cut the crap.. Lucy Kite, Linda O'Brian,in your face far too much.I second to GET RID of both of them,PLEASE
  • Barry
I think Lucy Kite is quite good but Jo Malin was irreplaceable. I don’t really care about regional news - I can’t see the point - but I always used to watch Central News just to see Ms Malin.

    Get well soon Bob Warman.
  • helen thompson
In reply I don't have the green eyed monster at all. I think that all the other female presenters were fine and a pleasure to watch.

I have to say that Ms Verdi on BBC is friendly fun and doesnt keep doing that odd look that say's I am not in the least bothered what your saying as long as I can see my reflection in the camera lens...

I would also so add that I am in my 20's so not a dried up old prune..... I would like to add that my friends men and women think the same....

    Come back Joanne Malin Please
  • Jon
Lucy kite is far to fond of herself for my liking. It makes me feel a bit uneasy watching her and I'm 25!!!
  • Glenn468008
Well said Terry Tibbs and Annmarie, I agree with you totally. Lucy Kite is a pleasure to watch as far as I'm concerned. No doubt the vast majority of her critics are either women who posess the green eyed monster curse and sad old blokes who can't accept that beauty, youth and enthusiasm can be part of our local news instead of the wooden bores who have been replaced.
  • Alan Carre
Lucy Kite a breath of fresh air ????? Hellooo. She's like a cat who's got the cream and lets us all know it. Far to flirty and annoying for a serious News programme (not).
Bring back the old school kick out the new.
  • helen thompson
Please make Lucy Kite go away.... she does that strange look into the camera and then does that strange smile that looks like she is trying to be in a Lad's mag. I can't stand it. She was bad enough when she did the celebrity news saying she was the luckiest girl in the world.
Well please make me the luckiest veiwer in the world and go away. I can't watch central news anymore it's dull and has nothing for me to tune in for i'm off to the BBC!
  • monkeyman53
Glad I logged on to the site looking for the phone and text numbers when I saw the debate on Central newsreaders. Joanne Malin was the goddess of newsreaders! Professional, able to have a laugh at the not to serious bits and raise a smile and absolutely stunning to top it all. Did you see her photoshoot in Weight Watchers magazine earlier this year? At 41 she put a lot of so called supermodels to shame with those absolutely amazing sparkling eyes that give you a warm glow just looking at them and she looks immaculate from top to toe in the magazine (and yet is fully clothed - unfortunately!) and always looked super smart when reading the news too. I think it's a massive loss that Central have lost her and that Llewella is going too as she is a wonderful newsreader too. Fantastic for her age and her all round experiance and appeal, like Joanne, entices you to watch and listen to the news. With Lucy Kite though, the constant turning her head to the camera with a flick of the hair and quick blinking as though she's trying to seduce you through the TV screen or posing for pictures in a mens magazine when she was doing interviews during the entertainment tonight section on a Friday hasn't seemed to have stopped as she's still doing it at every opportunity even now she's already got the spotlight by being promoted to the main female presenter! Cut it out Lucy and just read the bloody news! You've almost made it that bad to watch that I have been tempted to switch channels to watch the flamin' BBC local news - and that is total S***e!
Have to say that I'm missing Bob Warman as anchorman too! A real Brummie TV legend who never sought national notoriety by defecting to a TV-AM style show and then getting outshone by a puppet rat while on strike and ending up crawling cap in hand back to the Midlands! Bob is the epitomy of what an anchorman should be like on British TV and is sorely missed!
  • Terry Tibbs
That Lucy is the best thing that has happened to Central News in years, so glad they got rid of the old boots....

Thank you, good night, much love!
  • Annmarie
I like Lucy. she is a breath of fresh air and very confident. she's also very flirty espesially with Mark Gough.

I don't like dull school missy types, there is enough of that with the national news, where they look down their snooty noses.

But I don't like the sports woman.

Jo Malin was great. she's fun like Lucy but Llewella always looks like she is going to tell you off!
  • david
Fooled you.................................... She's back (Kite). Heaven preserve us.
  • karl
nice to see llewella bailey on central tonight (thursday) such a shame she leaves this month - must admit though didn't like lucy when she first took over from Jo but getting used to her now think she is getting better at it - Nobody can replace Jo though she was without doubt good at her job
  • Keith
Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!! No Lucy Kite tonight folks.Your wishes have been granted.
  • John
It seems Annie was right.... OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW!!!!!!

How many more new young faces can they get on Central News? For Gods sake give the regular anchors a chance.Lets see less ageism. You don't get it on the Beeb, they keep the regulars in the frame !!
  • karl
That chap is wesley smith he used to be on central south but recently has been anchor of Thames valley today, he is good but Think Mark Gough was a better stand in for Bob, having said that I would like Bob back it aint the same without him
  • Annie
Please get rid of Lucy Kite . Thank You.
  • Baggies gal
Who is that new chap doin Central News ... he's like some one from Anglia Television , please get rid !!!!!
  • SCorteen
WHats happened to Bob Warman He disappeared qwhen Jo malin went
  • Annie
It seems Sky High has a lot to answer for. It gave us another airhead,Holly Willoughby who is famous for wearing very little or totally backless dresses,oh and that ice reality show which she tries to enhance.
Re:the above letters. You do realise your wasting your breath, as the trend for news gossip magazine programmes is fit as many new young and fresh faces in as possible. Look at GMTV.Another contender for ageism if ever there was one.
I think TV in general has but one motto "OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW".
  • Johnny Comelately
Actually it was "Sky High" that Lucy Kite was involved with., not that it matters as your comments are probably echoing most other peoples.
As for O'Brian talk about IN YOUR FACE...I feel the producers of Central News need to look seriously at who they are employing and take into account we the public don't always want to see pretty pretty
on our screens. Let's get back to Basics and get some people with a bit of depth back into our living rooms.
What about LLewella Bailye . Surely she should have replaced Malin? And while we are at it what happened to Phillipa Thompson?Another wasted opportunity.
  • Dave
Phillipa Thompson can be seen reading the news in the north east
  • Bill Shakespear
I agree with the above entirely.
  • John Warman
Who an earth took the decision to replace Joanne Malin with Lucy Kite..... Oh dear . I think she would be more at home as a cheerleader . Hasn't anyone noticed she cannot be serious. She tries but it doesn't work. Get someone with a bit more maturity, not the kid from Fly High (which is where she is most of the time).
Oh and Linda O'Brian well................................................. Where is it all going to end????????????????
  • Hi Guys,

I've asked the question to the Central News team, here's what they said:

"Thanks for your email regarding Bob. We have had quite a few actually from our viewers, which I think is testament to his popularity – he’s an institution in television really. Bob is ill. We’ve mentioned it a couple of times on the programme. But truth is, illness is a personal/private thing and we haven’t been able to say too much.

We hope he’ll be back very soon, but we really can’t promise – Bob will be back when he’s well enough. But I’d like to stress he definitely hasn’t left. He’s very much part of the team."

I'm sure we all wish him a speedy recovery.
  • Anne
Where o where is Bob Warman his is misssed
  • Mrs Round
we haven't seen bob warman on central news for quite a while, will someone please let us know what's happened to him !
  • Nothing as far as I'm aware. I'm normally working when Central News is on - hasn't he been on recently?
  • MICKWALKER
WHATS HAPPENED TO BOB WARMAN PLEASE
  • Ah Licence, you're a bad man. I'd just about convinced myself that Roshan Doug wasn't writing on the internets any more. I don't know about tinyurl, we need warningtrollaheadurl.

If anyone else would like the Post News blog to contain less Doug you can subscribe to a Doug-Free RSS feed here http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=dvzd...
  • Licence Dodger
Pity there doesn't seem too much sympathy in other media circles. The post itself is bad enough but his follow-up comments, particulary the last one, is a tad insensitive considering the redundancies taking place at the Post&Mail too...
