Samantha, I don’t think anyone could consider the statue (either the original or the coke can one) celebrating animal cruelty in any way. If you’re insulted by it I recommended you never travel anywhere near Spain, you’ll explode.

While there are still many animal rights issues to fight, I think the we’ve kind of won the bull-baiting one in the UK. It’s interesting to tell people about the history of things, and the local angle would make a good intro to an animal rights discussion — perhaps you could see the statue in those terms?

I don’t agree with this sculpture at all. In the 16th Century a man called John Cooper was given the right to bait bulls here, I cannot see a need to celebrate bull baiting and I find this sculpture insulting.
