The votes are in, the die is cast

So that’s it, polls are closed. The Brummie of the Year 2007 has been decided, but who is it?

Well, we’re not going to tell, not yet away, blogging evangelist Pete Ashton and campaigning pub landlord John Tighe have been neck and neck almost since the polls opened - and there was still little but a cigarette paper between them as the votes were finally counted. We’ll announce the winner early next week - which will give us time to sort out the trophy.

The rest of the results, in reverse order are:

Richard Pawley - 0.8%

Condori : Big Chief Busks With Recorder - 1.6%

Martin Mullaney - 2%
Soweto Kinch - 3.8%

Carl Chinn - 4%

In fourth place, but still up for so many book awards we’re sure she’ll cope:

Catherine O’Flynn - 11.4%

Winners of best festival of 2007, according to Plan B magazine, but only third for Brummie of The Year:

Lisa Meyer & Jenny Moore of Capsule - 15.9%

Well done to Cath and the Capsule girls, we’re a little disappointed with Condori’s showing - we thought pan pipes were very popular. You can read a little more about the candidates here.

So, stay tuned…

  1. [...] closed on the 1st of December and the results will be announced soon. No correspondence will be entered into and all [...]

  2. Jon, you’re MEAN! I no longer live in Brum, but I’m at the Spotted Dog (everybody who reads this please come and support The Cause) tonight to celebrate or commiserate which John, and it’s just too much - the waiting’s the hardest part! Go on, even if you don’t announce it, please let me know, I can’t leave the city in anticipation.

Regardless of whether he wins, loses or draws, John needs all the possible support he can get now. If any of you care about Brum or music or Digbeth or anything related, please show your support for the Spotted Dog. We need you now more than ever.

Go on Jon, give me a hint…

  3. You should have been checking the source code of the page. The numbers were still there right to the end.

    But I don’t think I’ll tell.

  4. Actually, while I’m here. Have you decided on when the ceremony will take place? It’ll be at the Spotted Dog of course but a date would be handy.

  5. Are you really sure you need to know ;) Possibly the 14th?

  6. I won’t be here. I’m flying out to New Zealand on the 9th.

  7. [...] Brummie of the Year 2007 [...]
