Honours, even
Andy Raphael Thomas Hamilton, [link edited, thanks] local Jazz legend has been given an MBE for services to music in the city as has Amajit Talwar Chief Executive of Punch Records. A former lecturer at South Birmingham College, a ward sister from Sandwell Hospital, a Doctor from Balsall Heath and Julie Walters are also amongst the Brum-related honours. All nice worthy winners of the Royalist awards – there are a few more local ones too.
To get past the main Kylie and Parky awards I read the entire honours list – it’s fascinating, and it’s obvious that lots of people working hard for their communities across Britain – each award is given a reason as well as listing the occupation of the recipient. Kylie is a singer btw, but my absolute favourite was an MBE given for services to hairdressing. What a tease.

Your Andy Hamilton link goes to the wrong Sax player called Andy Hamilton. You want the Birmingham based musician and local hero who is currently approaching his 90th Birthday. His website is
http://www.andyhamiltonsjazz.co.uk/
And the Jazz Night he runs in Bearwood Corks Club is at
http://www.bearwoodjazz.co.uk/
p.s. Andy is a more than worthy winner, but he’s still dead chuffed to be receiving his long overdue recognition of all he’s done playing, promoting and teaching music, and bringing people together.
Oops, thanks – I’ve changed the link in the post.
