Andy Raphael Thomas Hamilton, [link edited, thanks] local Jazz legend has been given an MBE for services to music in the city as has Amajit Talwar Chief Executive of Punch Records. A former lecturer at South Birmingham College, a ward sister from Sandwell Hospital, a Doctor from Balsall Heath and Julie Walters are also amongst the Brum-related honours. All nice worthy winners of the Royalist awards – there are a few more local ones too.
To get past the main Kylie and Parky awards I read the entire honours list – it’s fascinating, and it’s obvious that lots of people working hard for their communities across Britain – each award is given a reason as well as listing the occupation of the recipient. Kylie is a singer btw, but my absolute favourite was an MBE given for services to hairdressing. What a tease.

Vale Mail is a fairly new (online at least) newspaper for residents of Castle Vale. They don’t quite get us, I don’t think, but we like them.

He’s no Condori, but “Vernon off Skint” – Brum’s most famous Big Issue seller – has designs on becoming a busker. Catch his Christmas special on the Beeb’s new streaming TV thingy.

I’ve spent a nostalgic evening compiling the BiNS 2007 review of the year – which you will find reviewing the year, here.
In other, year in review type cliches I’ll mention at this point that BiNS will be going head to head with HM The Queen on December the 25th – tune in at 3pm to see our Christmas message to Birmingham, it’s Commonwealth and Dominions (or Bearwood as it’s known). Annus Horribilis jokes guaranteed.
