Rosa’s Cafe

We like cafes here at BiNS, even if we rarely actually go into them, from Mr Egg to the Titanic Cafe to York Rd in Kings Heath (nice chips) - but none of these have their own blog.

Rosa’s Cafe in Fox St (round by Millennium Point) does tho’. Double egg please.

Walk, with the one who walks backwards

Ben Waddington is obviously dyslexic, why else would he research and schedule a special yuletide Birmingham tour themed around Satan?

So, Lucifer, Old Nick, the dark one, the antichrist, the fallen angel, B. L. Zeebub, what’s the Brum connection? According to Ben “There’s plenty to draw from in the Museum: devil paintings, huge statue of Lucifer &c, then Ozzy, Crowley, Pan statues…”.

The tour will take in some interesting Brummie Architecture, the history and culture behind finishing up with sacrificing a goat across the Krispy Kreme counter in Selfridges.

Beer railway?

cape_hill_1947.jpg

While searching for a nice picture of a pint of mild (I’ll come to that later) I found this page - all about a railway at the M&B Brewery at Cape Hill. Fascinating old stuff. Les Ross et al might enjoy the site from which it comes - Rail Around Birmingham.

It’s Ceristmuuuusss, with Russ L

Russ’ fantastic guide to everything December.

Sponsor the Sandvik lights

Fairly odd way to make money for the Lord Mayors Charities (via):

For a minimum donation of £5, … people can dedicate a white light on the 50ft (15m) pine tree… to commemorate loved one’s who’ve died.

Lord Mayor Randal Brew XI said: “We hope this will be a positive way of giving comfort to the bereaved while helping to generate funds for the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal.”

Something just doesn’t sit right - you can’t have a remembrance tree, and have it surrounded by large adverts, can you?

What do you think the Birmingham Post website should be like?

Easy answer, we know, is nothing like it is now.

Ever since Trinity Mirror failed to sell off the Post and Mail - then decided to keep it - it’s been sort of inevitable that they would get new websites, the icBirmingham thing being part of the a larger chain of regional websites for other (now sold) titles. Post journo, and blogging convert Joanna Geary is on the team that’s going to think about how it should work - and she’s soliciting comments.

So, it’d be rude not to…

Created in Birmingham, or LA or something

Ol’ Ozzy isn’t the most steady-handed of guys, so while it’s fairly unlikely that he’d have turned to painting (if it wasn’t for charidee and that) his message isn’t, erm er, well you can see where I’m going can’t you…

The canvas, is available to order from the Whatever it Takes website, and the money goes to 21st Century Leaders:

a unique charity artwork project. The concept is simple. We gather artworks from leaders in all fields; royalty, film, music, Nobel Peace Prize laureates, sports, literature etc. Each ambassador donates a symbol of hope, a self portrait and a message of hope for the future.

Er, don’t spill your seed upon stony ground, go buy one.

Bang bang, your chance to shoot each other down, flashmob style

Brumob’s next Birmingham flashmob is:

“a mass mimed shoot-out taking place on Wednesday December 5th. Watch this space closer to the time for location.”

Lol-cal Politics?

Joanna Geary and Pete Ashton both seem to have dug up a new Birmingham interweb phenomenon lol - local politics:

Bukkit

There’s a stream of photos on flickr that caption - in true lol-style - Harbourne Councillor and Edgbaston prospective Parliamentary Candidate Deirdre Alden. It’s gentle good fun, and they seem to be appearing apace with Mrs Alden’s very regular blogging.
